How we review

A score on Marginfold is earned with money we deposited ourselves. Here is what happens before one is published.

We open a real account

We sign up as an ordinary customer, in a location where the product is licensed, and complete identity and location checks. We note how long verification took and what documents were asked for.

We deposit and bet

We fund the account with our own money using at least one common payment method, then place bets on the markets most readers use. For sportsbooks we compare prices on the same events with other books and work out the margin, the share the operator keeps whatever the result.

For exchanges and prediction markets we record commission, spreads and how deep the markets were.

We withdraw and time it

A product is not finished until the money is back. We request a withdrawal, time it from request to arrival, and record any fees or extra checks. Slow or awkward withdrawals cost a product more points than anything else.

How the score works

Each review ends in an overall score out of 10, given to one decimal place. It weighs price quality, fees and payouts most heavily, then the range of markets, the app and the quality of help when something goes wrong. A score of 8.5 or more is shown in green.

  • Prices and margin, or commission for exchanges and markets
  • Deposit and withdrawal fees, limits and speed
  • Markets, bet types and limits on winning accounts
  • App and site quality on a phone and a desktop
  • Licensing, safer gambling tools and customer support

Keeping reviews current

Odds, offers and terms change. When we retest a product the review shows an updated date, and when we get a fact wrong we correct it and say so in a correction note at the end of the review. Found an error? Tell us on the contact page.
