Best for: Experienced bettors who want to back and lay at exchange prices
Betfair Exchange lets you back and lay against other bettors and pays a commission on net winnings. We worked through the maths against a bookmaker line, and what the 2025 fee change means.

Best for: Price-sensitive bettors who mostly play major-league sides and totals
ProphetX lets you post your own price against other bettors and charges 2% on net winnings of straight trades. We priced its spread against four US sportsbooks and weighed it against thin props and locked funds.

Best for: Exchange users who want a cheaper second book to compare prices
Matchbook charges about 2% on net winnings and runs a mobile-first exchange. We weigh that rate against Betfair's depth, the 2020 licence suspension and the fine print on its free-commission offers.

Best for: Experienced bettors who can absorb losses larger than their stake
Sporting Index sells sports spread bets and fixed odds. We worked through goal and minutes quotes to show the downside, priced four football lines at 4.3% to 5.3% overround, and checked the CMA ownership story.
