What works
- Best Odds Guaranteed covers UK racing, so an early price can only improve
- Daily each-way and extra-place specials, rated by reviewers as second only to Sky Bet
- App holds a 4.7 App Store rating across about 200,000 UK ratings
- Racing Post comments, live streams and William Hill Radio sit inside the app
What does not
- Football margins are not a selling point against bet365 or Sky Bet
- Record £19.2m Gambling Commission penalty in March 2023 over safer-gambling and AML failures
- Card withdrawals can take 3 to 5 working days, slower than PayPal
- Parent company evoke plc has pulled out of 13 markets, so the group is still reshaping
William Hill is the bookmaker your grandfather's local betting shop probably carried on its window. The name dates to 1934, and in 2026 it is a brand inside a much larger machine. The question for a bettor is plain: does the history still buy anything, or is this simply the third-best app on a UK phone behind bet365 and Sky Bet?
We looked at it the way we look at every book: the app listing, the published racing terms, the ownership, the regulator's record and what other users say when they have a bad day. Our answer is a qualified yes for racing and a shrug for everything else.
Where the racing offer earns its keep
The reason to hold a William Hill account is Best Odds Guaranteed on UK racing. You take a price early, and if the starting price turns out bigger, the bet pays at the bigger number. Racing Post's review lists it across UK horse racing, and it removes the one real regret of betting in the morning.
The second reason is each-way. William Hill runs daily extra-place and money-back specials, and the Racing Post reviewer rates the enhanced each-way terms as second only to Sky Bet. That is a fair ranking, and an honest one: this is not the best racing bookmaker in Britain, but it sits in the top group.
The app adds the useful dressing. Racing Post comments and verdicts appear on UK and Irish races, there are live streams, and you will find Bet Boosts and William Hill Radio. For someone who likes to read a card before betting, that is a reasonable amount of context in one place.
How the app stands against the two it is compared with
The UK listing shows version 14.13.0 and a rating of 4.7 from roughly 200,800 ratings (iTunes lookup, 7 November 2026). That is a big sample and a good score. For comparison, the same lookup puts Betway's UK app at 4.75 from about 47,000 ratings, so William Hill is not behind on the one number that can be checked at a glance.
Ratings flatter every big-brand app, though, and the written reviews tell a more mixed story. Look at the panel below: one reviewer praises the app after a payout problem to an expired card was resolved, and another warns people to keep well clear of the company. Both are single accounts, and we treat them as such. What they show is that payout friction, not interface quality, is where people get annoyed.

Against bet365 the difference is depth. Third-party app testing has put bet365 in front for market breadth and speed, and Sky Bet is the more natural home for football-first bettors with its own football features. William Hill is the middle option: broad enough, tidy enough, and rarely the first choice for the specific thing you want.
Payouts, and a note on the paperwork
Withdrawal times are the area where published information is least consistent. Racing Post's table gives PayPal and Paysafecard as up to 24 hours and cards as 3 to 5 working days, while its FAQ says most methods are processed instantly and bank transfers take 3 to 5 days. We would plan on the slower figure for cards and treat anything quicker as a bonus.
The regulator's record is the other thing to know. In March 2023 the Gambling Commission ordered WHG (International) Limited and related companies to pay a record £19.2 million for social responsibility and anti-money-laundering failures. An earlier penalty of £6.2 million followed in 2018. A fine of that size does not mean your own account is at risk, but it is relevant to anyone who weighs how seriously an operator takes player protection, and it is why we hold the score where it is.

Who owns it, and why that matters little
The ownership chain is long. The company was listed in London from 2002 and taken over by Caesars in April 2021. In 2022 the European business went to 888 Holdings for £1.95 billion after the price was cut from £2.2 billion, and that group is now evoke plc. The American William Hill sportsbook stayed with Caesars, which is why the US app is now called Caesars Sportsbook & Casino. If you are in the US, this review does not apply.

In December 2024 evoke said it would stop operating in 13 countries. For a UK customer that changes nothing today, but it tells you the group is still pruning.
Verdict
Open a William Hill account if you bet on racing a few times a week, want Best Odds Guaranteed and like context in the app. It is a reliable second book, and the offer terms are mainstream rather than gimmicky.
Skip it if football margins drive your choice, or if you want the deepest markets in the country. In both cases bet365 is the stronger option, and Sky Bet does more for football. Joining is free, and nothing here is a route to profit: odds include the bookmaker's margin, and most accounts lose money over time.
Responsible gambling: you must be 18 or over. Set deposit limits before your first bet, use the reality checks and time-outs in the app, and contact GamCare on 0808 8020 133 or BeGambleAware if gambling stops being fun.
