What works
- Race replays and racing videos with expert tips are built into the racecard
- Same Race Multi and Same Game Multi are quick to assemble
- SGM Tracker follows AFL, NRL and NBA multis live during the game
- More Places pays on horses finishing 5th to 8th in selected races
- The iOS app holds a 4.6 average from about 185,000 ratings
What does not
- Multis are high-margin products, and the app pushes them prominently
- Social features like the Feed encourage copying other punters' bets
- Higher taxes and advertising limits are reshaping the market it leads
- Not available to bettors outside Australia
- Official pages block automated tools, so terms must be read by hand
If you have watched Australian sport on television, you have seen Sportsbet. The brand has been so heavily advertised that the useful question is whether the product behind it is any good, or whether a punter is just choosing the name they have heard most. We went through the app with that in mind, and the short answer is that the product is better than the noise suggests.
A bookmaker that outgrew its origins
Sportsbet began in Darwin in 1993, according to its Wikipedia entry. Paddy Power bought 51% in 2009 and took full ownership in March 2011, and the business now sits inside Flutter Entertainment, the same group that owns Paddy Power and FanDuel. A May 2026 Yogonet report estimates its share of Australia's online bookmaker market at about 45%, roughly double its nearest rival, Tabcorp. Earlier industry figures were higher, at 48% to 50%, so the lead has narrowed.
That context matters for the buyer. A market leader gets the best shop window and the most promotions, but it also operates in a market where higher taxes, tougher advertising rules and slower growth are squeezing margins. Flutter said in May 2026 that it welcomed new advertising restrictions, and trade reports have described a fall in racing revenue. None of this changes your bet, but it explains why the app pushes engagement features so hard.

Racing is the strongest part
Australian racing is where Sportsbet is hardest to beat. The listing describes thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing for Australia and New Zealand, with in-app racing form, a Blackbook that sends SMS alerts when a chosen horse is next to run, and a "flucs" button that sorts the racecard by the biggest price movers.
Two products stand out. More Places lets you back a horse to finish 5th, 6th, 7th or even 8th and still win, with the price shortening as the place range widens. Same Race Multi lets you combine several runners in one race: the listing gives the example of picking multiple horses to finish in the top four at a fixed price before the jump.

Those are exotic bets, and exotic bets are where bookmakers keep the widest margin. A 26.00 multi looks generous, but you cannot see what it costs you compared with the fair price. The same warning applies to Same Game Multis across AFL, NRL and NBA, which the app builds and then tracks live with its SGM Tracker.
Replays, videos and the Feed
The part of the app we like most is the least glamorous. Race replays and race videos with tips from industry experts sit on the Race Card and in My Bets, so you can check how a run went without leaving the app.

The Feed is the other piece, a social layer where you can copy and share bets, follow punters and see how many others copied a bet. The sample screen shows 926 punters copying one multi.

We would use the Feed to read and not to copy. A multi that 926 people copied is popular, which is not the same as being good value, and copying can speed up your betting in a way that is hard to notice.
Payments, rating and what to watch
Deposits go through debit cards, Apple Pay, PayID and PayPal. The Sportsbet Cash Card gives access to winnings and ATM withdrawals, which is convenient, and also makes it easier to spend your balance than a bank transfer would. The iOS app holds a 4.6 average from 184,995 ratings, which is a high score, though we did not test payout times on real withdrawals ourselves.
Verdict: who should open an account
Open a Sportsbet account if you bet on AFL, NRL or Australian racing and want a single, well-stocked app with form, replays and quick multis. It is a sensible main account for a recreational punter.
Do not open one expecting the product to be cheap. If you bet mostly on multis, the margin you pay is the biggest cost in the app, and the app's design leans toward them. Set a limit before you start, and treat the Feed as entertainment.
Responsible gambling
You must be 18 or over and in Australia. Betting involves a margin on every price, so nothing here is a way to make money. Sportsbet offers deposit limits, time-outs and exclusion on mobile and desktop, and Gambling Help Online (1800 858 858) is available at any hour.
