ProphetX Review: A Peer-to-Peer Sports Exchange, and Whether Its Order Book Is Deep Enough

ProphetX matches bettors against each other for a 2% fee on net winnings instead of a built-in margin. We read the fee schedule, the payment limits and one price sample to judge liquidity against sportsbooks.

out of 10

ProphetX offers a real order book where users set prices, and on headline NFL games its spread looked far tighter than a sportsbook's hold in the one sample we found. Props and niche markets are thinner, funds lock until settlement, and its legal standing is still contested in at least one state. It suits price-aware bettors on big games; it does not suit parlay or promo hunters.

What works

  • Spread of 1.3% to 1.5% in one sample, against 4.2% at DraftKings
  • Fee is 2% of net gains only, charged when you win
  • Limit orders let you name your own price
  • App Store rating 4.7 from about 3,700 ratings
  • Covers NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, college and soccer

What does not

  • Liquidity is thin on obscure props and niche markets
  • Money stays locked in open positions until settlement
  • Connecticut issued a cease-and-desist order in September 2026
  • Few payment methods; paper-check payouts take 7 to 14 days
  • Sports only, with few promotions beyond the welcome credit

A sportsbook sets a price, adds a margin and takes your bet. A betting exchange lets other bettors take the other side, and charges a fee instead of building a margin into the line. ProphetX is the American version of that idea, and the useful test is not the interface but whether anyone is on the other side when you want to trade.

Our limits first. We did not fund an account, so we cannot report fills of our own. What follows draws on ProphetX's public pages, its App Store listing and two independent reviews, one of which is affiliate-linked and says so.

How the pricing works

Instead of a quoted price with a hidden hold, ProphetX shows an order book. You can place a quick order that fills against the best available offer, or a limit order that waits until someone matches your exact price, under price-time priority. One reviewer's description of the cost is simple: no operator vig sits inside the line, and what you pay is the gap between the two sides.

The fee is charged on net gains. On straight trades it is 2 percent of your net winnings in a market, and you pay nothing on a losing trade. For parlays the sources differ: one says parlays that fill as limit orders pay no fee and immediate fills pay at least 0.4 percent, while another says parlays carry 0 percent. Read the in-app fee screen before relying on either.

Is it actually cheaper?

The one head-to-head price sample we could find is from OddsShopper, on a single Colts and Commanders moneyline pulled on October 2. ProphetX showed a spread of 1.3 to 1.5 percent. DraftKings was at 4.2 percent, BetMGM at 4.4, Fliff at 5.9 and Circa at 3.5, and a standard -110/-110 market carries a hold of about 4.5 percent. ProphetX's -186 on the Colts was the best price on that screen apart from NoVig's -182.

That is one game on one day on a headline matchup, so it shows the best case, not the average. It is, though, the sort of market where an exchange should shine, and it did.

Where liquidity runs out

The same reviewer says depth is greatest on NFL moneylines and totals and thinner on obscure props, where a posted price can sit unmatched. The market list covers NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, college sports and soccer, with moneylines, spreads, totals, player props and futures, but the reviewer gave no volume figures.

Two practical costs follow from the structure. Money in an open position is locked until the market settles, which can take months on futures. And a thin market can leave your limit order unfilled, so a bargain price on a niche prop may never trade. Sportsbooks, by contrast, will always take the bet, at their price.

Getting money in and out

Action Network's tables put the minimum deposit at $10 for debit or prepaid cards, Aeropay or Trustly online banking, and PayNearMe cash, all instant, with a $1,000 minimum on wires and a per-transaction cap of about $5,000. Withdrawals by Aeropay take from instant to 24 hours, paper checks take 7 to 14 days, and wires take up to 72 hours with a $5,000 minimum.

That payment menu is short. If you want a fast withdrawal, choose Aeropay and test a small cash-out first.

The legal footing is still moving

ProphetX began as a sweepstakes-style product. Reviews published after June 2026 describe it as a CFTC-regulated Designated Contract Market available in 49 states and DC, excluding Nevada. The Terms of Use on its site were updated on June 10, 2026.

Regulation is still contested. OddsShopper reports that Connecticut issued a cease-and-desist order to ProphetX on September 10, 2026, and says the wider question of state against federal authority over prediction markets is being litigated in cases that do not name ProphetX. Before you deposit, check whether your state is currently open.

The app

Apple's lookup service gives the iOS app 4.7 from about 3,700 US ratings, and the listing is rated 18+. Action Network adds that the app includes several responsible-trading tools.

Who should use it

Use ProphetX if you bet mostly single moneylines, spreads and totals on major games, compare prices as a habit, and are comfortable with a limit order. A lower spread does not make a bet a good one, and a bettor who is wrong loses money here just as anywhere else. Skip it for same-game parlays, boosted props and deep promotions, which sportsbooks do better. Only trade what you can afford to lose, and call 1-800-GAMBLER if it stops being fun.
