Outlier Review: Prop Hit Rates and Trends, and the Confirmation Bias They Invite

Outlier packs hit rates, injuries and line movement into a prop research app, free to browse and $19.99 to $79.99 a month on annual plans. We asked whether it informs a bet or just decorates one.

out of 10

A tidy research layer for player props that saves real time, since hit rates, injuries and cross-book prices sit on one screen. The free tier is generous enough to judge it, and the paid tiers start at $19.99 a month when billed annually. The weakness is built into the format: a trailing hit rate is a small sample, easy to read as proof. Use it to check a bet you are already weighing, not to find reasons for one. Not for anyone who stakes more because the numbers look tidy.

Prop bettors who want trends, injuries and prices in one place

Free; paid from $19.99/mo billed annually

What works

  • No account is needed for free NBA and NFL research, with 3 insights and 3 popular bets per sportsbook
  • Hit rates, averages and medians are shown with the sample size, so thin evidence is visible
  • The AI notes list reasons a bet could lose, not only reasons it could win
  • Free calculators for expected value, Kelly, no-vig odds and parlays need no signup
  • App Store rating of 4.87 from about 16,900 ratings, updated 6 Nov 2026

What does not

  • Premium is billed upfront annually, so the entry price is a year's commitment, not $19.99 once
  • Hit rates over 10 games are noisy, and a 10 of 10 streak reads as stronger than it is
  • The best tools, such as the positive EV feed, sit behind paid plans
  • Coverage and promotional allowances change; the AI token allowance on Premium+ was recently doubled
  • Research encourages more bets; the app supports betting, so its incentive is to keep you looking

Outlier's own sample card says it plainly. A guard cleared 1.5 first-quarter assists in 10 of 10 recent games, a 100 per cent hit rate, with an average of 3.2 and a median of 3. Then the same card lists reasons it could go under: "A small sample: 10 games can't capture every matchup or rotation," and "Thin margin: two games finished at 2 assists." That honesty is the most useful thing in the product, and it frames our question. Does Outlier help you research a prop, or does it make a bet you already like feel researched?

Free first, and that is the right order

You can start without an account. The free NBA and NFL pages offer 3 insights and 3 popular bets per sportsbook, and a set of calculators (expected value, Kelly criterion, no-vig fair odds, odds converter, parlay) needs no signup either. That is enough to judge whether the layout suits how you think before anything is billed.

Outlier's free NBA odds and player props page
The free NBA research page: odds, lines and props with a limited number of insights per sportsbook.

The home page is aimed squarely at prop bettors: a feed of trending picks, a browse view across game lines and player props, and a detail view with performance trends, injuries, matchup data, public sentiment and line movement. When you decide to bet, it links to FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM or Caesars in two clicks.

What the plans cost, read carefully

The pricing section lists three tiers, and every price is a per-month figure billed upfront annually. That detail changes the arithmetic.

  • Premium: $19.99 a month, billed annually, with 5 AI tokens a month.

  • Premium+: $29.99 a month, billed annually, with 30 AI tokens (promotional).

  • Pro + React Live: $79.99 a month, billed annually, with 30 AI tokens.

So Premium is about $240 charged at once, Premium+ about $360 and Pro + React Live about $960. There is a 7-day free trial, with 5 AI tokens to use during it. Premium+ carries a note that its promotional allowance was originally 15 tokens and is now 30, a sign that allowances move, so check the page before you commit.

The plans section: three tiers, each with a 7-day free trial and annual billing.

The Pro tier bundles React Live, a second app for live bets with real-time AI signals. We would not pay roughly four times Premium for it unless in-game betting is already how you bet. The page also advertises a positive EV feed and an arbitrage feed in the plan lists. Those tools overlap with specialist software such as OddsJam, which we have reviewed separately, so compare before paying for both.

Where hit rates mislead

A hit rate is the share of recent games in which a player cleared a line. It is easy to read and easy to misuse, for three reasons.

  1. Sample size. Ten games is a small sample. A real 55 per cent shooter looks like a 100 per cent one over a short run more often than intuition suggests.

  2. The line already knows. Sportsbooks see the same recent games you do, so a player who has cleared a number repeatedly usually has a higher number next time.

  3. Selection. An app that sorts by hit rate shows you the streaks, which are exactly where luck is most likely to be mistaken for skill.

Outlier mitigates this better than most: the sample size sits on the card, the median appears next to the average, and the AI note spells out risks. But a tool can only put the warning on screen, not make you read it.

The EV calculator is the better habit

Outlier's expected value calculator takes odds and your estimated win chance and returns the average profit or loss for your stake. The weak link is the input: your estimate. If it is a hit rate from 10 games, the output inherits that noise.

The free Expected Value Calculator, which needs odds and your own win estimate.

Used honestly, it tells you the price you would need before a bet is worth taking. Used loosely, it launders a guess into a number.

Verdict

Outlier is a good-looking, fast research tool with an unusually candid sample card. The free tier justifies a trial, and Premium at $19.99 a month on annual billing is reasonable if you research props most nights. It is not a source of edge, and nothing here should be read as a way to make money. Bettors who spend more time on prop research than on bankroll limits should look at that balance before upgrading.

The app has a 4.87 App Store rating from about 16,900 ratings and was updated on 6 November 2026, so it is actively maintained. We did not independently audit its data against official box scores, and you should spot-check a few hit rates before relying on any of them.

Outlier is for people of legal betting age: 18+, and 21+ in many US states. Treat every stake as money you expect to lose, use the deposit and time limits your sportsbook offers, and if the research starts to feel compulsive, US readers can call 1-800-GAMBLER.
