BetQL Review: Star-Rated Model Picks and Sharp-Money Data, Priced by Sport

BetQL sells computer-model picks, star ratings and sharp-money reports through a free app with tiered subscriptions. We read the store listing, the plan prices and independent coverage to judge what the money buys.

out of 10

BetQL packs a computer model, star ratings and sharp-money reports into a tidy app, and the day pass lets you look before committing. But the top plan costs up to $299.99 a year, we found no independent, audited record of its picks, and star ratings are an opinion about value, not a promise of profit. Worth a look as research, hard to justify as a habit.

What works

  • Free download and a $4.99 All Sports Day Pass to sample it
  • 1 to 5 star ratings make model output easy to scan
  • Covers NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and college football
  • Sharp-action and line-movement data in the same app

What does not

  • All-sports Sharp plan runs $69.99 a month or $299.99 a year
  • No audited, independent record of pick results found
  • Store pages disagree on some plan prices
  • Our direct capture of the BetQL website was blocked

Sports bettors have two cheap ways to find an opinion on tonight's slate: read a free preview or ask someone who has already done the maths. BetQL sits in the second camp, and its product is the model. The question we asked is simple: is a rating from software worth a subscription when the same market data is partly free elsewhere?

A note on method. BetQL's own website refused our automated browser on every page we tried, so this review rests on the Apple App Store listing, a paywall tracker, independent coverage and what each of them captured. We say where a claim comes from.

What the app promises

The listing describes a 1 to 5 star scale for the value of each bet, with five stars for the strongest data-backed plays. A computer model hunts for mispriced lines using projected scores, player stats and matchup trends. A Sharp Action report shows where professional bettors are placing money, and the app tracks line movement and previews. It covers the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and college football, with other leagues referenced as "and more".

RotoGrinders, in a roundup of picks apps, says the product is "mainly based on a predictive model" aimed at finding value in key markets, and also calls the premium tier one of the priciest options available. It adds the usual caution that no picks app guarantees wins. That is the right frame for everything below.

The price ladder

The free download is the entry point, and a day pass gives you everything on one slate for $4.99. After that the plans split by sport count. The App Store lists Pro (two sports) at $24.99 monthly or $99.99 yearly, Premium (one sport) at $29.99 monthly or $74.99 yearly, VIP (three sports) at $29.99 monthly or $149.99 yearly, and Sharp (all sports) at $69.99 monthly or $299.99 yearly.

A paywall tracker's page for BetQL: two paywall screens, an in-app purchases heading and prices of $20, $24.99 and $29.99.

Some numbers are odd. One-sport Premium costs more per month than two-sport Pro, and the tracker's own text gives different monthly figures for Premium and Sharp in its description than in its purchase table. Treat the listing's purchase table as the more specific source and confirm in the app before paying. We found no mention of a free trial on either page, which makes the day pass the real test drive.

Does the model earn the money

This is where we have to be plain. We found no independent, audited record of how BetQL's picks have performed against closing lines over a season. Star ratings are an opinion about value and sharp-action reports describe other people's bets, which is not the same as a guarantee they will win. Anyone selling a score out of five has an incentive to emphasise the winning slates.

A fair test is cheap. Buy the day pass, write down five or ten star ratings before the games, compare them with prices at several books and record the outcomes. A tiny sample proves nothing, but you will learn whether the ratings add anything you could not get from a free odds page.

What free sources already give you

Line movement and public-betting percentages are not unique to a paid app, and several odds sites publish a version of them without charge. What you pay BetQL for is the packaging: one place, one rating scale and a model you cannot rebuild on a spreadsheet in an evening. Decide whether that convenience is worth about $75 to $300 a year to you, then check the result against your own notes after a month.

Where it came from

The company is old enough to have a track record in the sense of longevity. Coverage from October 2018 describes BetQL launching as a mobile-first analytics platform for bettors in the B2C market, built for fans taking on the oddsmakers. The app now lists RotoQL as developer, an 18+ age rating, and a 4.3 out of 5 average from about 1.8K ratings, which is a decent but not outstanding score.

Who should buy

A one-sport Premium plan suits a bettor who follows a single league, already compares prices, and wants a second opinion on the model side. The all-sports Sharp plan is hard to justify unless you bet heavily across leagues, because the $299.99 yearly price needs a sizable bankroll before it matters. A casual bettor is better off with the day pass and free odds pages.

You must be 18 or older, and betting should never be treated as income. Set a budget, use your sportsbook's limit tools, and seek help if you cannot stop.
