Paddy Power wins attention with jokes and money-back specials. We checked what the specials actually pay, how fast withdrawals are reported to be, and whether its odds hold up against other UK bookmakers.

Verdict: Paddy Power is a well-run, well-liked bookmaker whose specials are real value for casual football and racing bettors. Its everyday odds are competitive rather than best, and reviewers report a higher margin than some rivals, so shop around before committing a large stake.

Best for: Casual UK and Irish football and racing bettors

Paddy Power built its name on cheek: stunts, billboards and specials that read like a pub dare. The useful question is whether the product behind the jokes prices bets well. Our answer is "fairly", with a few features that are better than fair.

One limit on what we can claim. Paddy Power's site returned an HTTP 403 to our automated browser, so we did not click through the live betting pages. This review draws on Racing Post and Gambling.com assessments, the App Store listing and Wikipedia, and each figure below is tied to its source. Check terms on the live site before you stake anything.

The specials are the product

The pitch is money back. For new UK and Irish customers, Racing Post describes a refund of the first bet as cash, up to the value of 10 pounds or euros, usable on football, racing or golf. Cash is better than a free bet because there is no stake-not-returned penalty on the winnings.

The ongoing specials matter more. Horse racing money-back runs on selected meetings every day, returning your stake as a free bet if your horse finishes second or third behind the starting-price favourite. That is a partial insurance on a bet you probably wanted anyway, and the bookmaker prices it in elsewhere, so read the terms for the meetings that qualify. There is also an Acca Special, which gives a free bet when a five-plus-leg accumulator or bet builder loses on a single selection.

Free-bet refunds are not cash. A 20 pound free bet at odds of 3.0 returns 40 pounds of profit if it wins and nothing otherwise, which is worth roughly two thirds of its face value to a bettor who picks fairly priced selections. Those are the numbers to keep in mind when a banner says "money back".

Are the odds competitive?

Mostly, and that is the honest answer. Gambling.com says Paddy Power is normally competitive but rarely has the best price on the market. Another assessment cited a margin of 7.63 percent on the markets it analysed, which is higher than the tightest UK books. We could not find a Best Odds Guaranteed policy for Paddy Power, so do not assume you get the later price on horses.

The test is easy to run yourself: take a Premier League match, add up the implied probabilities of home, draw and away at two bookmakers, and compare the totals. Anything above 100 percent is the overround, the bookmaker's built-in edge. The closer to 100, the better for you.

The app

On 7 November 2026 the UK App Store showed Paddy Power Sports Betting at 4.74 out of 5 from 267,084 ratings, last updated 27 October. Racing Post scored the site and app 5 out of 5. We have not logged in, so we cannot comment on speed or layout beyond the store screenshots.

Cash out is available, including partial cash out on a range of markets. Treat it carefully: the cash-out price embeds a margin, so a habit of cashing out early costs more than the same bets left alone.

Getting your money out

Racing Post lists a 5 pound minimum for each withdrawal method. Cards are quickest at one to four hours, PayPal takes up to 24 hours, and bank transfer or Apple Pay take two to five working days. Different guides quote slightly different figures, and the bookmaker can ask for identity checks before a first payout, so plan for a delay on day one.

Who should use it

Use Paddy Power if you bet football and racing at modest stakes, like the daily racing refunds and want a bookmaker with a large user base and a UKGC licence (number 39439). Skip it as your only account if you are hunting the best price on every selection, or if you plan to place large bets where a margin of a few points matters.

Verdict

We give Paddy Power a 7.0. It earns that through specials that are clearly written, cash out that is easy to find and a payout record reviewers describe as quick on cards. It does not earn more because the headline odds are average. Betting carries risk, bookmakers are built to profit, and it is not a way to make money. Set a deposit limit before you start, and use GamStop or the operator's tools if you need to step away.
