Outlier ReviewA Prop Research App With Real Tools and a Steep Pro Price

Outlier is a player-prop research app, not a sportsbook. We read its plans, free pages and calculators against published reviews to judge who gets value from $19.99 to $79.99 a month.

Verdict: Outlier is a clean, well-regarded prop research app with a useful free tier and 16 calculators. The paid tiers are priced for people who bet daily, and the top plan at $79.99 a month needs a large bankroll to justify. Pick'em players get little beyond one EV calculator. Worth the 7-day trial for active prop bettors, not a safe bet to pay back its fee.

Best for: Active prop bettors who shop lines across several books

Outlier does not take bets. It is a research layer that sits between you and the apps where you do bet, and it charges a monthly fee for the privilege. The question is whether that layer earns back what it costs.

Our short answer: it can, for a prop bettor who actually uses the tools, and it almost certainly will not for someone who bets a few dollars on weekends. Betting carries risk, and no research subscription changes the fact that most people lose money over time.

What you get before you pay

The front page leads with a plain promise, "The #1 App for Making Smarter Bets", and shows an NBA player props screen next to a phone view of team statistics. Outlier says the free pages need no account.

The free tier is real but small. Outlier's NBA and NFL pages each show 3 Insights and 3 Popular Bets per sportsbook. That is enough to see how the product thinks, and not enough to run a betting routine on.

The NFL page follows the same pattern, so a quick look at both tells you whether the layout suits you before the 7 day trial starts.

The calculators are the best free part

Outlier lists 16 free calculators: parlay payout, round robin, expected value, Kelly criterion, odds conversion, no-vig fair odds and a PrizePicks EV tool. The parlay tool combines 2 to 15 picks and shows combined odds, profit and total payout.

If you only want arithmetic, stop here. A no-vig calculator and a Kelly sizing tool cost nothing, and they teach more about your real edge, which is usually zero, than most paid products do.

Plans and what each one costs

The plans section is titled "Which plan is right for you?" and offers three tiers. Prices are billed upfront annually on the website, and the page shows a "2 months free" saving on the two lower tiers.

The plans section: Premium, Premium+ and Pro + React Live, with a 7 day free trial
  • Premium: $19.99 a month on the site's annual toggle, with 5 AI tokens a month.

  • Premium+: $29.99 a month, labelled an early bird rate, with 30 AI tokens (the page says it was 15 originally).

  • Pro + React Live: $79.99 a month, with 30 tokens and React Live included.

The trial lasts 7 days and includes 5 AI tokens. Prices elsewhere do not agree. The US App Store listing shows Premium at $199.99 a year, Premium+ at $299.99 and Pro at $359.99, and Pro monthly at $79.99 (a second listing shows $99.99). A 2024 Building Bankroll review quoted Pro at $129 a month "for a limited time". Check the live checkout before you commit, because these numbers have moved.

Where the money goes

The cheaper tiers hold the research core: props and game lines, filters, injuries, matchup data and line movement. The Positive EV feed, Sharp Book Odds, an arbitrage feed and middle betting sit higher up. Building Bankroll made the same split, with EV analysis, boosts, arbitrage and middles reserved for Pro.

That matters for the value calculation. Arbitrage and +EV tools only pay if you act fast across several books, with a bankroll large enough that the fee is a small slice of it. At $79.99 a month, the Pro tier costs $960 over a year before you place a single bet.

Strategy pages and education

Outlier also runs a strategy section covering college basketball and college football betting plus general "betting intelligence" articles.

It is useful as free reading, with the usual caveat that a publisher selling a subscription has a reason to make betting sound winnable.

How it holds up for pick'em players

Here is the awkward part for the audience this review was written for. Outlier's home page does not list pick'em as a feature. The nearest thing is the free PrizePicks EV calculator, and logos for Underdog sit among the supported books. A pick'em player will find line comparisons and hit-rate style sample data in the AI example, but we found no dedicated pick'em slip builder on the pages we read.

The App Store listing names NBA, NFL, NHL, NCAA basketball and football, MLB, WNBA and six soccer leagues. It says Outlier is not a sportsbook and does not accept wagers. Four books (FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM and Caesars) are named for two-click bet placement.

Reputation and the fine print

The App Store shows a 4.9 rating from about 17,000 ratings. One critical review we read said a promised free month was not credited until Outlier corrected it, and objected to a platform update that removed the main hit-rate view. A third-party review site reports mostly negative sentiment, so ratings are not unanimous. We have not tested data accuracy or latency ourselves, and neither did the independent review we cite, so treat the claim of "real-time data" as unverified.

Who should pay

Pay if you bet player props most days across several books, you already track your closing prices, and you will use line shopping and EV tools instead of reading them. Start with the 7 day trial and cancel inside it if you do not use the app daily.

Skip it if you place a handful of small bets a week, or if you want pick'em specific tools. The free pages and calculators will cover you. If you have a gambling problem, free help is available at 1-800-GAMBLER in the US.
