FanDuel took over the TVG racing business and tied it to its sportsbook account. We checked what changed, how the shared wallet works, and who benefits from betting horses inside a sports betting app.

Verdict: FanDuel Racing is the convenient choice for horse bettors who already hold a FanDuel Sportsbook account, because one wallet covers both. It is a competent rebuild of TVG rather than a revolution, and pari-mutuel takeout, not the app, decides how much you win or lose.

Best for: FanDuel sportsbook users who also bet horse racing

The interesting thing about FanDuel Racing is not the horses. It is the wallet. For years, US horse bettors kept racing money in one account and sports money in another. FanDuel, which owns the old TVG business, decided one balance should do both, and that single decision shapes the whole product.

A caveat on evidence: FanDuel's racing pages returned an HTTP 403 to our automated browser, so we could not walk through the live betting screens. This review rests on the App Store listing, trade coverage of the 2022 launch, and Wikipedia's history of the brand. Dates and state lists may have moved since, so confirm them before depositing.

From TVG to FanDuel

TVG was the best-known US racing network and wagering brand. In 2022 FanDuel rebranded the channel as FanDuel TV and added sports betting programming, and TVG2 became FanDuel Racing. The racing wagering app and site were left alone at first. Wikipedia's entry for FanDuel TV shows how the brand moved from TVG (1999 to 2022) into its FanDuel era.

How the shared wallet works

In December 2022 FanDuel announced what it called a merged wallet or single account, according to Casino.org. A sportsbook customer could place pari-mutuel bets on horse races, including the Kentucky Derby, from the same FanDuel app with the same balance, and watch the races there. Before that, a sportsbook player had to open a separate racing account with a separate balance.

Launch states were Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming, with more promised. Legal Sports Report later quoted FanDuel as saying 650,000 customers had used the shared wallet to bet across channels, and credited it with a Triple Crown handle increase of more than 20 percent year over year. Those are company figures, not independent ones. We found no current state list, so check availability where you live.

In practice the benefit is small but real. You do not move money between products, you do not forget which account holds your balance on Derby day, and the promotions in one product can be seen from the other. If you have never bet a horse, you are only a tap from doing so, which is also the risk.

Pari-mutuel is a different animal

Casino.org notes that FanDuel planned bettor education because its audience is used to fixed odds. That matters. A sportsbook gives you a price when you bet. A pari-mutuel pool gives you a price after betting closes, because your payout depends on how the rest of the money is spread, minus the track's takeout. Takeout rates vary by bet type and state, and exotic bets such as trifectas and superfectas tend to cost more than win bets. A horse that looks like 4-1 at the time of your bet can pay noticeably less or more.

Bettors who care about price should therefore watch the pools, not the morning line, and look hard at win, place and show before exotics. None of that is specific to FanDuel, but a sports-first app makes it easy to forget.

The app, by the numbers

On 7 November 2026 the US App Store showed FanDuel Racing at 4.8 out of 5 from 17,931 ratings, updated 6 October. That is a smaller pool than the sportsbook app attracts, which suggests a dedicated user base rather than a casual one. Ratings do not tell us about stream quality or how fast results settle, and we did not log in to test either.

Who it suits

Pick FanDuel Racing if you already use FanDuel Sportsbook, you bet horses a few times a month and you value one balance. Consider an alternative if racing is your main hobby and you want rebates, deep handicapping data or a racing-first interface. Verdict

FanDuel Racing earns a 7.4. The shared wallet is the strongest convenience feature we have seen in US racing, and the app's rating is excellent. It loses points for a limited launch footprint, a sportsbook-first design and the plain fact that pari-mutuel takeout is expensive. Betting carries risk, horse racing is not a reliable source of income, and no app changes the maths. If you need support, call the National Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-800-GAMBLER.

What we liked

  • One account and wallet covers sportsbook and pari-mutuel racing bets
  • iOS app rated 4.8 from about 17,900 ratings
  • Races can be watched in the app, which keeps the bet and the video together
  • Backed by Flutter's TVG heritage and Churchill Downs content ties

What fell short

  • Shared wallet launched in only nine states, and the current list needs checking
  • Pari-mutuel takeout is higher than most fixed-odds margins
  • Official FanDuel pages blocked our automated browser
  • Sports-first branding can bury racing tools for dedicated horse players
