Portfolio TrackersReview
Kubera review: is $250 a year worth it for one balance sheet?
We connected crypto wallets, a brokerage account and a checking account to Kubera to see whether its $250-a-year Essentials plan earns its keep against free tools like Empower, or whether it is really built for portfolios far bigger than most readers carry.
Our verdict
Kubera pulls crypto wallets, brokerage accounts and physical assets into one balance sheet without selling your data, and for a portfolio spread across many account types that is worth $250 a year; a reader with just a bank account and one exchange should stick to a free tool.
Best for: People tracking crypto alongside brokerage, bank and real estate holdings in one place
- Price
- $250/year (Essentials), $2,500/year (Black)
- Made by
- Kubera

What we liked
- Tracks crypto wallets, exchanges, DeFi and NFTs alongside banks, brokerages and real estate in one dashboard
- No ads and no data-selling business model, since the company charges a subscription instead
- The Dead Man's Switch feature gives a named beneficiary read-only access after a set period of inactivity
- Web Sync manually pulls in balances from institutions with no direct integration
What held it back
- $250 a year is real money for something a free app like Empower covers for a simpler portfolio
- The Black tier jumps to $2,500 a year for ownership tags and nested portfolios most readers will never need
- Crypto price and balance syncing lagged by several minutes during a fast-moving afternoon in our testing
- No budgeting or bill-tracking features at all, so it replaces nothing on the spending side of your finances
We linked a Coinbase account, a self-custody wallet, a brokerage account and a checking account to Kubera and left it running for a month, mostly to answer one question: does a single balance sheet spanning crypto and traditional assets earn its $250 annual fee, or is that a price built for portfolios much larger than a typical reader's.
One page, several account types
Most crypto portfolio trackers stop at wallets and exchanges. Kubera goes further, pulling in banks, brokerages, private stock, real estate, vehicles and jewelry alongside your on-chain holdings, and showing all of it as one net worth number rather than a pile of separate apps. Connecting our crypto side took a few minutes through standard exchange API keys and a public wallet address; the checking account synced through Plaid with no surprises.
That single view is genuinely useful the moment your money lives in more than two or three places. Watching a market swing move both our crypto and brokerage balances on the same screen, in the same currency, told us something a separate crypto app and a separate brokerage app never would on their own.

What $250 a year buys, and what $2,500 buys
Kubera's Essentials plan costs $250 a year and covers the core balance sheet, connected accounts and the estate-planning Dead Man's Switch. Step up to Black at $2,500 a year and you get ownership tags for splitting assets across people and trusts, plus nested portfolios that track money moving between them, features aimed at family offices and advisors rather than an individual with a few accounts.

For most readers of a crypto review, Essentials is the relevant tier, and $250 a year works out to about $21 a month, more than a coffee subscription but less than most paid tax software plans. Whether that is worth it depends entirely on how many separate apps you would otherwise be checking; if your whole net worth sits in one exchange account, you don't need this.
The Dead Man's Switch is not just marketing copy
We tested the inactivity feature by setting a short check-in period and letting it lapse. Kubera sent multiple warning prompts before granting our designated beneficiary read-only access, and it let us set a backup beneficiary in case the first one is unreachable. For anyone holding crypto that a family member would otherwise have no way to find after an emergency, this is a real feature, not a checkbox on a marketing page.
