CoinLedger Review: The Simplest US Crypto Tax Filing Path?
We synced a handful of exchanges and a few DeFi wallets into CoinLedger, ran the free preview, then paid for a full report, checking whether its TurboTax handoff and its DeFi labelling hold up better than the manual spreadsheet it replaces.
Our verdict
CoinLedger lets you connect exchanges and wallets and preview your full gain and loss picture for free, then charges once you actually want the downloadable report: $49 for up to 100 transactions, $99 for up to 1,000, or $199 and up for 3,000 or more. For a US filer with a handful of centralized exchange accounts, that free-then-pay model and the direct TurboTax export make it one of the least stressful ways to get through a crypto tax season. Heavy DeFi users should still expect to manually recheck staking, liquidity pool and bridged-token entries, because CoinLedger's automatic labelling gets those wrong often enough to matter.
Best for: US filers with a few centralized exchanges and light-to-moderate DeFi activity who want a TurboTax-ready report
- Price
- Free to preview; paid per tax year
- Made by
- CoinLedger

What we liked
- Free portfolio sync and preview before you pay anything
- Direct export to TurboTax, TaxAct, H&R Block and TaxSlayer
- Unlimited report revisions once you have paid, at no extra cost
- Built-in tax-loss harvesting tool to flag positions worth selling before year-end
- 14-day money-back guarantee on paid plans
What held it back
- Automatic labelling of DeFi, staking and bridged-token transactions still needs manual review
- Transaction caps mean a busy trader can outgrow the $49 or $99 tier fast
- Accuracy depends entirely on a complete import; a missing wallet quietly skews every number
- Support responses on complex edge cases can take longer than the chat widget implies
We connected two centralized exchanges, a MetaMask wallet with a handful of DeFi swaps, and one staking position to CoinLedger, then walked the whole thing through to a filed TurboTax return.
Free until you actually need the paperwork
CoinLedger lets you sync every exchange and wallet and see your full portfolio, gains and losses for nothing. The payment only shows up when you try to download the actual report, at which point you hit one of three tiers: $49 for up to 100 transactions, $99 for up to 1,000, or $199 and climbing for 3,000 or more. That structure works well for anyone unsure whether they even need to file, since you can see the numbers first and decide afterward whether the report is worth buying.

DeFi labelling is good, not perfect
We fed CoinLedger three liquidity pool deposits, one lending position and a handful of bridged tokens moved between two chains. Most of it categorized correctly on the first pass. Two transactions did not: a bridge transfer got flagged as a taxable disposal rather than a like-kind transfer, and one liquidity pool exit under-counted the cost basis by missing a fee transaction buried in the same block. Both were fixable by hand once we noticed them, and CoinLedger's manual edit tool made the correction quick, but "quick to fix" still means you have to catch the mistake first. Independent reviews describe the same pattern: solid automatic coverage on mainstream DeFi activity, with staking, liquidity pools and wrapped tokens as the recurring trouble spots.

The TurboTax export is the whole point for a lot of filers
Once the report looked right, we exported directly into TurboTax rather than typing numbers from a PDF. The import matched every line item without manual re-entry, which is the single biggest reason to pick CoinLedger over a spreadsheet if you already file through TurboTax, TaxAct, H&R Block or TaxSlayer. That integration alone probably saves more time than any other single feature in the product, because it is the step where a hand-typed number is most likely to go wrong.
