City Index Review: Does StoneX Trading Beat FOREX.com for UK Traders?
City Index has just relaunched under the StoneX Trading name for UK clients while other regions moved to FOREX.com. We opened an account, checked the pricing page and asked whether the rebrand changes anything a trader should care about.
Best for: UK traders who want TradingView charting and broad market access from an FCA firm without shopping purely on spread
City Index, now trading under the StoneX Trading name in the UK, is a properly regulated, deep multi-asset broker rather than a cheap one. Its FCA entity, StoneX Financial Ltd, backs both this brand and FOREX.com, so the safety case for either is identical, and the choice mostly comes down to which platform a trader prefers looking at every day. StoneX Trading's TradingView-based Web Trader is the nicer interface of the two, but the spread on EUR/USD trails cheaper FCA rivals, and MT5 still is not on offer. A trader who wants one login for shares, indices and FX, and is not chasing the tightest possible spread, gets a solid if unremarkable account here.

City Index has traded under that name in the UK for more than four decades, but the brand a new client signs up with today is not the one from a year ago. StoneX Group, the Nasdaq-listed parent, has been folding its retail brands together, and the UK arm now trades as StoneX Trading while City Index accounts opened in Australia and Singapore were already moved onto FOREX.com. We opened an account under the new name, read the pricing pages line by line and traded on the platform for a week to see what, if anything, actually changed.
A rename, not a rebuild
Nothing about the account itself moved when the name did. Existing balances, open positions and login details carried over automatically, and the FCA entity behind the brand, StoneX Financial Ltd under reference 446717, did not change either. That matters more than the new logo does. Whatever a trader thought of City Index's execution or support before September 2026 is still the honest baseline, because the staff, the dealing desk and the regulator did not move anywhere.
What did change is which brand a new signup lands on. FOREX.com now covers most regions outside the UK, and StoneX Trading is the UK-facing name going forward. Since both sit on the same FCA licence, the safety argument for choosing one over the other collapses to nothing. The real question is which interface and pricing a trader prefers, not which brand sounds more reassuring.
What the account actually costs
We pulled up the Trading Costs page rather than trust a marketing summary, and the numbers there track closely with what ForexBrokers.com measured independently: an average EUR/USD spread near 0.74 pips on the standard CFD account, built entirely into the spread with no separate commission line. That is workable pricing but not sharp pricing. Raw-spread brokers charging a few dollars in commission per lot routinely land under 0.8 pips all in, so a trader coming from that world will not see a reason to switch on cost alone.
