Shark SpeedStyle Pro Review: Is Scalp Shield Worth the Hype?
A 1,750 watt high-speed dryer that can cost $139.99 on sale against $229.99 list. We look at what you give up next to a Dyson and what Scalp Shield actually claims.
Our verdict
A strong value among high-speed dryers when it is on sale near $140, with a long cord and a 230 degree temperature cap. Scalp Shield is Shark's own claim with no independent proof, and at the $229.99 list price it is a much less convincing deal.
Best forBuyers who want a fast dryer without paying Dyson prices
What we liked
- Often discounted to $139.99, well below a Dyson Supersonic
- Long 96.1 inch cord and a light 1.65 lb body
- Temperature is measured 1,000 times a second and capped at 230 F
- Two-year limited warranty
What held it back
- Scalp Shield protection is claimed by Shark with no independent test data
- Only three attachments in the box
- At $229.99 list the value case weakens a lot
The Shark SpeedStyle Pro is the high-speed dryer to consider if you want the Dyson idea without the Dyson invoice. On Shark's own page we saw it at $139.99, marked down from $229.99, which is a long way below a Supersonic. The question is what you give up for that, and how much to trust a feature called Scalp Shield.
The price you actually pay
Dryer pricing is slippery, so here is what the page showed when we looked. The SpeedStyle Pro listing on SharkNinja's site showed $139.99 against a crossed-out $229.99, with other bundles from $99 up to the full $229.99. The list price is the number you should compare against, and the sale price is the number most buyers pay. Shark runs discounts often, so the dryer has been cheap for long stretches.
Even at $229.99 it undercuts a Dyson by a wide margin. Woman & Home, in a Shark versus Dyson comparison, says the two share the same wattage and heat settings. A UK review of the folding Flex sibling says Shark's range still lands close to £200 there.
