Shark CryoGlow LED Face Mask Review: Is the Under-Eye Cooling Real?
Shark's $299.99 CryoGlow adds chilled under-eye pads to a red, blue and infrared LED mask. The cooling is a genuine differentiator, but it costs battery life, adds fan noise and makes the mask heavy.
Our verdict
The under-eye cooling is more than a gimmick: no rival mask has it. But it drains the battery to 58 minutes, adds fan whirr and the 537 g mask is hard to wear lying down. Best used upright, for people who care about puffiness too.
Best forPeople who want LED therapy plus under-eye de-puffing, used upright
What we liked
- Only LED mask here with three-level under-eye cooling
- Red, blue and infrared programs of 6 and 8 minutes
- FDA-cleared with a two-year limited warranty
- Priced from $299.99, with a two-year warranty included
What held it back
- Cooling cuts battery life to about 58 minutes
- At 537 g it is heavy and sags when you bend forward
- Fans whirr whenever the cooling pads run
- Eye pads dig in when you lie down
The cooling pads are the reason this mask exists, and they are also its most irritating part. Shark's CryoGlow is the only LED mask in the US that combines red, blue and infrared light with chilled metal patches under the eyes, and it costs $299.99 (reduced from $349.99 on Shark's page). Independent reviewers like it. They also keep mentioning the same three annoyances: weight, fan noise and eye pads that dig in.
What you get for $299.99
The mask has three treatment programs. Better Aging runs 6 minutes of red and infrared light, aimed at fine lines and firmness. Skin Clearing runs 8 minutes of blue and infrared light and finishes with red, aimed at breakouts and redness. The under-eye cooling runs alongside, with three chill levels under the name InstaChill. The mask is FDA-cleared and carries a two-year limited warranty.
The headline efficacy claims on Shark's page come from its own work: a 12-week study of 60 subjects using the Better Aging mode once a day, and a 12-week study of 59 subjects for Skin Clearing. The page also says users saw clearer skin in 4 weeks and firmer skin in 2 months. Those are the maker's figures, individual results vary, and none of this is medical advice.
The cooling pads, judged on their own
Under-eye cooling is a real differentiator. Expert Reviews calls the CryoGlow the first light therapy mask to offer cooling patches, and notes that no rival comes close on this point. Shark says the patches soothe, depuff and visibly tighten the under-eye area within minutes.
