Revlon One-Step Volumizer PLUS Review: Still the Easiest Budget Blowout
The original dryer brush added a medium heat setting, a smaller 2.4 inch oval head and a detachable barrel. It is still the simplest way to a rounded blowout for about $70, but it runs hot on high and rewards patience.
Our verdict
The most approachable dryer brush there is. The PLUS adds a useful medium heat, a smaller head that gets closer to the roots and a detachable barrel, for roughly twice what the original once cost on sale. It will not out-style a pro with a round brush on thick hair, and high is hot, but nothing at $70 gets a beginner to a smooth blowout faster.
Best forShoulder-length, fine to medium hair that needs smooth volume fast
What we liked
- Four heat settings: low, medium, high and cool
- Smaller 2.4 inch oval head reaches roots and short layers
- Detachable head with a release button for storage
- Four-year limited warranty from Revlon
- Dries and styles in one pass, cheap next to a $400 styling tool
What held it back
- High runs hot on fine or bleached hair
- Slower than a pro dryer on thick or long hair
- Corded and fairly loud
- The upgrade over the discounted original is modest
If you have ever watched a stylist hold a round brush in one hand and a dryer in the other and thought you would need three hands and a degree, the dryer brush is for you. Revlon's One-Step Volumizer PLUS fuses the two into one tool. It costs $69.99 at list, and a fine-haired beginner can get a smooth, rounded blowout from it in one pass.
That is the verdict up front. The details below are where it gets less glossy: how the PLUS differs from the original, how hot it actually runs, and who will be disappointed.
What changed from the original
The old model was a fat, oval paddle that looked a bit like a hairbrush with a jet engine attached. The PLUS keeps the idea and fixes the shape. Revlon's feature list boils down to a new 2.4 inch oval head, activated charcoal pins, a sleeker handle, a detachable head with a lock-in release button, a ceramic titanium barrel with tourmaline ionic technology, and four heat settings: low, medium, high and cool.
