Why this site exists
Looking into an electric two-wheeler today usually leads to three kinds of page: a dealer's shop listing, an article that reprints the press release, and an argument in a forum thread. All three are useful up to a point, and none of them answers the question that actually matters: is this machine, at this price, worth it — and worth it for whom.
Pinwheel tries to answer exactly that. One review is one machine, and every machine is placed next to the others in its category using a single yardstick.
What we write about
Everything here is a battery-powered two-wheeler you can order today, from the makers selling in the US, Europe and Asia — the models worth using as a benchmark rather than whatever happens to be in a local showroom.
- Electric motorbikes for daily commuting.
- Pedal-assist e-bikes and e-bikes with throttles.
- Standing kick scooters for the last mile.
- First bikes for teenagers, cargo bikes, bikes that carry a child.
How we work
Every review starts on the manufacturer's own product page. We record the specifications the maker publishes, screenshots of that product page as it looked when we wrote, and the list price where there is one. Anything that is a manufacturer figure is called a manufacturer figure, never presented as an independent measurement.
The judgement is the newsroom's opinion, built on those numbers plus what daily use does to them: broken pavement, rain, a real commute distance, and a charging network that is thinner than the brochure implies.
Where the money comes from
No manufacturer pays to be reviewed, to score well, or to have a criticism removed. If we ever run advertising or affiliate links, that content will be clearly labelled and kept apart from the reviews — and a score will never be part of a commercial arrangement.
